At exactly 10AM CST, Deadmau5 release his new single, ‘Snowcone’. This marks the first official release by the legendary masked producer in over two years. While fans are still holding out for an entirely new album, it’s always good to hear he hasn’t lost his edge.
During this two year dry spell, it was not uncommon for Deadmau5 to throw a few demos and work-in-progress tracks on his Soundcloud. However, this is the first completed song (non-remix) that we’ve seen from him in just over two years. We’re still a bit surprised that this song was dropped on YouTube and not Soundcloud, but with the number of issues surrounding Soundcloud lately it must be a safer to bet on YouTube. It also goes without saying, but it’s also a smarter move from a monetary standpoint too.
Snowcone Is definitely a departure from the Deadmau5 style and might not exactly be your cup of tea. If you were expecting a big room banger, then you’ll be sorely disappointed as this is more of a mellow electronic jam. At the time of posting this, there are just over 20,000 views, and a number of controversial comments. Now, that’s par for the course on YouTube, but it might just take a few listens for fans to feel it.
