Era Istrefi – Bonbon Song – Intro | BTB Tutorial #3

0

Bonbon Song by Era Istrefi is the third tutorial in our series that demonstrates how to develop your favorite parts of the songs you love — for this song in particular we developed the intro. In this series we aim to provide some basic understanding behind how a song can be structured and how you can quickly assemble the sound. These tutorials are aimed at beginners or just those looking for a quick snapshot of “how do they make that sound.” For our Quick Tutorial series we’ll try to steer clear of any advanced techniques keep the tools to a minimum.

We wrote about this song a few weeks back when it was really starting to make its rounds. We felt it was the right time to dig in a bit and put together a tutorial that highlights the intro of the song.

What Song? Bonbon Song
Which Artist? Era Istrefi
What Key? Cminor (C, D, E♭, F, G, A♭, B♭)
BPM? 95
Which Piece? Intro

Below you’ll find the keyboard roll for the introduction midi structure for Bonbon Song by Era Istrefi. The key signature for this song is Cm at a speed of 95BPM. There’s pretty standard 2 bar pattern that repeats throughout the intro which is depicted in the keyboard roll as well.

One call out to this song being at 95 BPM. This is a bit slower than we are used to as your more common dance track will run around 128-135BPM. The speed of your track is usually a better indicator of the energy you’re trying to convey; in the case of this song, it’ll just make things a little more difficult to beatmatch if you’re spinning to a faster song.

Below is also the settings for the EQ Eight we applied to the lead in our intro (5th Stab). We’re huge fans of the EQ Eight and will put it on most tracks to really help separate out the right frequencies in our tracks. This gives us a strong middle for our lead layer without getting muddy at low frequencies (eventually competing with space reserved for the bass).
